In 2007, boxing champion, Floyd Mayweather Jr., founded The Floyd Mayweather Jr. Foundation (TFMJF), a non-profit organization that seeks to empower and promote the social development and advancement of struggling adults and adolescents.  The Floyd Mayweather Jr. Foundation’s focus is on community health and wellness, economic growth and development, and youth education.

The programs of TFMJF aim to help disadvantaged people in the community. One program called Fight 4 Your Education seeks to help Nevada students improve their state test scores and teach them important life skills. The foundation recognizes the importance of financial literacy, especially in economically challenged areas in the Las Vegas Valley, and through various outreach programs, TFMJF provides Financial Literacy classes for all age groups.

Alongside teaching financial literacy, TFMJF provides free life skills workshops which have been designed to highlight a variety important factors such as honesty, responsibility, time management, self-awareness, stress reduction, staying healthy, communication, interview conduct and application completion. Each workshop may focus on a variety of different factors/topics.

TFMJF also provides free writing workshops for students as it seeks to bridge the gaps that many people experience because of writing skills deficiencies. These workshops teach students skills such as grammar use, cover letter and résumé writing, and college essay writing. The foundation also holds two annual book drives (in April and October) to promote reading outside of the classroom, as reading fluency and comprehension skills are essential to success in the classroom.
